What is damp? - how get rid of it

First we should know that what is damp? It is a basic moistness within the sight of undesirable and irritating dampness in the structure of a development, either the aftereffect of interruption from outside or buildup from within the structure. Condensation is common form of dampness in buildings, it appears to be more of a problem in modern properties than your historic building due to the introduction of double varnishing, draught elimination which basically cut down the natural ventilation of the property. Old properties, with sash windows, open fire-places and gaps around the original doors and windows are far less likely to be severely affected by surface condensation. The water in the air which causes surface condensation is the root cause which isresulting from your life styles, mainly cooking, bathing and just general activities.

Causes of damp

Damp are caused by excess moisture. This is mainly seen in buildings by leaking pipes, etc. condensation is one the problem or cause of damp, due to excess moisture in indoor. Droplets form on indoor surfaces such as mirrors, windowsills, etc. to prevent condensation by putting lids on saucepans, drying washing outside and avoiding using paraffin, opening the bedroom window foe few minutes. Make sure your house is well insulated, heating your home a little more and ventilating rooms regularly and leaving doors open to allow air to circulate, unless you are cooking or showering. Repairs are needed to get rid of any leaks, once your house has been repaired, and if your house is damp because it is newly built, it will take weeks of heating and ventilating it to dry it out.

How can you remove mold?

Once you identified and fixed the source of dampness in your house you can get rid of any mold, you have to remove mold all by yourself, or you may need to get a professional to remove it. Only remove mold yourself if it is caused by condensation and covers an area less than one meter squared, don`t remove the mold if it is caused by sewage or other contaminated water. Protect yourself from mold spores, long rubber gloves and a mask that covers your nose and mouth. For removing it have a plastic bag ready to take away any soft furnishing, clothes and soft toys that are moldy. Then fill the bucket with water and some mild detergent, as washing up liquid or a soap used for hand-washing clothes, use a rag dipped in the soapy water to carefully wipe the mold off the wall. When you are finished, then use a dry rag to remove the moisture from the wall to save it from damp. After this put the rag in a plastic bag and throw it away. All the surfaces in the room should be thoroughly cleaned by either wet wiper or vacuuming to remove any spores, so the problem will not arise again. Damp is such a problem which make the walls damage and affect your house, building or any property.
